Pennsylvania – no, Rhode Island again!

statesOur map is actually getting some color!!  We decided not to drive the trailer all the way to Rhode Island, so we left Columbus and headed towards eastern PA.

We made it about 1/2 way across PA as it was getting towards evening, so we found a campground and got settled in for the night.   The next day we finished the drive to East Stroudsburg..  But that wasn’t really our destination!

Columbus, Ohio

IMG_1322We spent 3 weeks based out of Columbus, OH, because that’s where Jeff’s employer, Regatta Central, is located. I say “based” because neither of us was there for the entire 3 weeks. One of the weeks was my monthly work week, and I returned to Hackensack, NJ. Jeff had the rare opportunity to work in person with folks he usually only speaks to on the phone, and then spent a weekend in Boston at the Head of the Charles regatta. He also made a quick, 2 day trip to Phoenix where his daughter, Vicky, was presented with the national collegiate polo female player of the year award. Continue reading Columbus, Ohio

Ann Arbor, Michigan

IMG_1332Ann Arbor delighted us with spectacular fall weather during our entire stay! Sunny days in the 70s and cool evenings in the 50s.  This allowed us to watch the fall colors appear right before our eyes. Again we had lots of fun, relaxed, quality time with relatives: my brother David, sister-in-law Karen and  nephew Ben.  Being near U of M during football season caused the campground to get a bit rowdy on weekends!

Rochester, New York

IMG_1547Continuing with our quest to visit as many relatives as possible, we spent 2 weeks in Rochester with Jeff’s sister Anne, her husband Mitch, son Ray and (for one day) daughter Lianne.  It was the first 2-week stop that didn’t involve a campground!

We were able to place Monty in front of their barn after a few scary minutes sinking into the lawn and almost getting stuck. Jeff managed, with his usual trailer-driving aplomb, to get off the lawn without a disaster!

Vermont and Western MA/NY (and Rhode Island!)

IMG_1441After a quick visit to Wolfeboro for Matt’s naming ceremony, we spent two weeks in Pownal, Vermont (6 miles south of Bennington) afforded plenty of time for challenging bike rides along the hilly country roads and fun kayaking on the Battenkill River.  Jay and Virginia came up for the weekend and we had a great time doing a high ropes course, longboarding and kayaking. Prince Edward Island

IMG_1407If you like Anne of Green Gables, warm ocean beaches, cows or potato pastures, Prince Edward Island is for you. Oh, and Anne of Green Gables, did I mention her?

We had originally planned to come here for our honeymoon, but never made it.  So it was fitting that we were here on our 11th anniversary.   We had a great afternoon/evening in Charlottetown including a fantastic dinner downtown.

Bar Harbor

IMG_1283The moment we crossed the bridge onto Mount Desert Island, a bald eagle flew right over us – a harbinger of the beauty we were about to experience.

Our adventure in Bar Harbor began the moment we arrived….one day early! I take full responsibility – I did the planning on this part. Pulling into the campground after a long drive and hearing we did not have a spot reserved almost gave me a heart attack – you can’t put a rig this size just anywhere! Luckily, the friendly campground hosts quickly determined that they had one open space that we could fit into for the night. Disaster averted!
